Only invite friends and the family you actually want to see

Granted, this is easier the second time around, but maybe don’t invite people out of obligation? I think people can feel it when they are the odd folks out. We stuck to parents/siblings and friends only. It required a few tough conversations up front, but our max headcount really helped with those convos. (See: get married at a restaurant.)
