Hire people, not companies, and pay them well

One of my favorite parts about my wedding was getting to hire people whose work I admire. Rather than paying big event companies, I hired good folks (and even some friends) to do our flowers, cake, hair/makeup, photography, and event day coordination. Everything felt professional but still handmade.
